In my opinion a sizable portion of the bozos could likely be mercenaries so are not the main resistance. This opinion is based more on study of history rather than any sort of direct evidence. It is possible that a tactic of whoever involved is simply to use brute force mercenaries to wear out the opponent. So could be a bit debatable whether aikido or karate is the most suitable response.
