Hello Dr. Kats, I've been taking pure folic acid for a week now. At the beginning: 1500mg N, 3g folic acid and approx. 27mg iron. With the small amount of folic acid I have, I didn't dare to divide N: 250. Unfortunately the 1500g of N was too much for my stomach. I lay awake in pain for 2-3 hours every night. Since yesterday I have been taking 250mg N, 1mg folic acid and about 5mg iron. It was the first time in weeks that I was able to sleep 5.5 hours in a row because I hardly had any stomach pain. I will now stick to the dosage and slowly increase everything again as my stomach allows. Kind regards, Iris

      • This is a very good update to hear, Iris. Thank you! In a way, do you think that the ratio at what it is now her with your last dose before this nice sleep and no stomach burning at last, is doing something so specific to avoid these issues at last and provide only deep therapy based on the fine-tuning of these ratios? Given how aligned niacin, iron, and folic seem to be in the mechanics of anti-inflammation through each cell, I feel like the tiniest shifts in these mass ratios ARE in fact clinically meaningful shifts to where if they are not in best ratio, the chemistry is in a way, WAY off, and so these annoying acute side effects pop up because something is missing / too high…

        • Hello Dr. Kats, I’ll stick with this relationship for a while to see whether it’s right.
Unfortunately, because of my stomach, I can no longer take niacin, even though I feel like my body needs it. However, my stomach limits me. There is no burning in the stomach. There is painful pressure and congested air in the left upper abdomen. I can well imagine that this relationship can be a very good one. I will report further. However, I also believe that it can vary in individual cases. For example, I can imagine that if someone has anemia/profound pellagra, then they would probably need Niacin: 45 and not 56 iron. Or in my case, I will pay special attention to folic acid and hope that my stomach pain, nerve injuries and tinnitus will actually go away step by step. My feeling is that it is precisely this ratio, but depending on the symptoms, the circumstances can shift individually. I believe that this needs to be tried out and that people can learn to carefully observe what is good for them. Best regards,
          iris

          • Well, with the ratio right, these issues are avoided … also, what kind of water are you using… also – what kind of diet are you eating? also, are you not taking any other “meds”?

            • “It was the first time in weeks that I was able to sleep 5.5 hours in a row because I hardly had any stomach pain. I will now stick to the dosage and slowly increase everything again as my stomach allows. Kind regards, Iris” /// this part is key … there is no need to start at higher doses if you don’t feel like you need to, or continue … some (really many in number) folks need way less after all than they/we think … you reported doing very well here at lower level and the iron and folic fine-tuned …

          • Good morning Dr. Kats, last night I was able to sleep for 6 hours straight again – wonderful, without stomach pain. I’ll stick with the dosage for now.
We have an osmosis reversal system with a carbon filter to filter water. I know you don’t approve of these systems because they lower the pH. I take the filter water and distill it once. We live in a fracking area and 5 years ago we had our tap water tested. After stagnation, the heavy metal contamination was 800 times higher than it should have been. On her advice, I tried distilled water twice, but after distilling twice there was a film of grease in the still. That’s why I use the filter water distilled once. And unfortunately I don’t have the money for another filter system or your water at the moment. I follow a Paleo diet as much as possible. Almost everything is organic and from our own garden. I don’t take any medication at all. After the operation following my accident in 2003, I only took painkillers once. I completely reject these weapons of war. I got so much of it as a child and it made me very weak and increasingly sick. Have a nice day, Iris
