“Breast milk is the only source of tryptophan for infants. The concentration of free tryptophan in breast milk changes with the age of the infant, and this is presumably done to meet the infant’s changing needs. Quantified tryptophan in breast milk at different ages after birth and found a decrease in free and total tryptophan over the days of lactation [69]. On the 30th day of lactation, the total fraction averages 8.9 mg/L, and the free fraction averages 6.3 mg/L; on the 100th day, 1.3 and 1.1 mg/L, respectively.”
